Description
Landguard is a beautifully kept holiday park, boasting the David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation. There are spacious indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a licensed club with entertainment where your children are welcome with you all evening.
Shanklin, a bustling Victorian town, with good shopping and fine beaches, is just half a mile away. Ventnor, with its beautiful gardens and museum, or Alum Bay, with its fascinating coloured sands, are both close by.
Due to car parking arrangements Landguard may not be suitable for wheelchair users or persons with mobility difficulties.
Stay at Landguard Holiday Park and enjoy the facilities at Lower Hyde 1 mile away (see details on page 193).
Landguard has a modern playground just for the under 12s, special planned pool areas for paddling and splashing and children’s entertainment in the club. For older children there is another play area whilst the swimming pools can be enjoyed by everyone. Together with the superb range of facilities on the park you also enjoy use of the facilities at Lower Hyde including an indoor pool, outdoor pool with flume and family entertainment.

Situated on the south-east coast of the Isle Of Wight, in Sandown Bay, the pretty town of Shanklin is a popular location for family holidays. It is famed for its good weather and has two safe, sandy beaches - Small Hope Beach and Hope Beach - which are sheltered from the wind by the spectacular backdrop of Dunnose Point. There are many traditional seaside attractions including an amusement arcade, crazy golf, a putting green, beach huts and a children’s play area, as well as several cafes, restaurants and pubs. A cliff lift provides easy access to the cliff tops, where the views are particularly stunning. During the summer months a small road train provides a regular service to the town centre and Old Village.
The town centre has two main supermarkets, arts and crafts shops, clothing and sports shops, and some newsagents and bakeries, as well as gift shops and restaurants.
Shanklin’s Old Village is delightful, with thatched cottages, quaint shops and old-fashioned tea-rooms. It is also home to the renowned Shanklin Chine, a deep, wooded coastal ravine carved out by a stream. This beautiful and picturesque place features waterfalls and a nature trail, a Heritage Centre, a tea garden and gift shop. One of the displays showcases a small section of the pipe of the “Operation Pluto” pipeline used to supply fuel to the D-Day beaches. In the evenings the waterfalls and woodland are illuminated.
Shanklin is well-placed for exploring the rest of the Isle of Wight, and attractions within easy reach include the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary, the Amazon World Zoo, the Isle of Wight Zoo, Blackgang Chine, and the Robin Hill Adventure Park and Gardens. The town is well-served by the railway, which connects to the ferry terminal at Ryde Pier, allowing easy access to the mainland and London. Regular bus services are also provided.
